University students often navigate through their semesters with numerous team projects. However, many students tend to avoid participating in group work due to the presence of non-contributing team members. This project acknowledges and seeks to address this issue through the creation of the app 'Teampl EZ.'

TeamplEZ is the 'KakaoTalk' for team projects

TeamplEZ is a service designed to help all team members comfortably complete projects until the end, offering convenient project management features, efficient team communication functions, and unbiased team member evaluation capabilities.

To reduce stress within groups and create a window for seamless communication, enabling effective management of group projects.

Discover, Define, Design, and Deliver

We adhered to the Human-Centered Design (HCD) process, initiating with user research. After synthesizing valuable insights from surveys and interviews, we identified the problem and seamlessly transitioned into the ideation phase. Progressing from initial sketches to high-fidelity prototypes, we systematically developed the first version of the application. For areas where we identified the need for functional enhancements, we conducted additional surveys to iterate and advance the prototype.

By conducting a comprehensive survey, we compiled the viewpoints of college students. This process allowed us to empathize with their needs, define key challenges, and ideate innovative solutions

Empathize

The phenomenon known as '*free-riding' among some students is considered the primary reason why college students are reluctant to engage in team projects.
* Free-riding is when one or more students/team members in a team do not participate in the course of project at all, leaving the other members burdened in more workload. 

Define

How can we prevent 'free-riding' in team projects?

Through application-based project management:

  1. Encourage the participation of all students by applying consistent pressure through deadlines.

  2. Identify students with a history of 'free-riding' before forming project teams.

We utilized survey feedback to identify areas for improvement in our app, leading to enhancements in functionalities and the creation of version 2.0.

  1. Sign-up

    • Simplify registration information based on survey results.

  2. Notification Tab

    • Introduce a notification tab to strengthen project management features and user accountability.

  3. Bottom Tabs

    • Reorganize with Calendar tab, Project Group tab, Notification tab, Chat tab, and Team Member Evaluation tab.

  4. Team Member Evaluation Tab

    • Schedule attendance for offline and online meetings, offering a tab for tracking attendance statistics.

  5. Attendance Statistics

    • Feature to review attendance status for the selected project team.

  6. Final Evaluation Confirmation

    • After project completion, enable users to check task and attendance evaluations, providing objective data for professors.

  7. Push Notifications

    • Send push notifications for meeting times, task submission deadlines, and other important events.

    • Allow team members to evaluate submitted tasks, fostering collaboration and accountability.

Version 3.0

We conducted UI and functionality modifications for the Calendar tab

Calendar Tab Modifications:

  1. Display current year and month

    • Design adjusted for optimized API usage during development.

  2. Show only schedules for the current day instead of displaying continuous schedules beneath the calendar date

    • Reflects feedback that, given the nature of projects, highlighting daily deadlines is more common.

    • Addresses concerns about reduced readability when managing multiple projects in the calendar

Differentiation from Competitors

  1. Primary Target Audience

    • While project management apps are primarily designed for professional use, TeamplEZ caters specifically to university team projects.

  2. Internal Pressures for Accountability

    • Diligence assessments (attendance checks, task submission deadlines).

    • Task evaluations.

    • Review of attendance statistics.

  3. Objective Data for Academic Evaluation

    • Provide team members' evaluation results within a specified period after project completion.

  1. After the second survey, we shifted the focus to enhancing participation and capabilities in team projects rather than preventing free-riding → Believed that it could provide value to everyone involved in team projects

  2. However, all survey participants were university students → The group that identified the issue consisted of university students who had experience with projects conducted within university lectures

  3. Evaluating team members to strengthen participation and capabilities serves as a factor in preventing free-riding

    : Planning to add a user feedback feature within the app to swiftly gather feedback from users about the application.

    • Survey results indicate that many participants expressed a desire for team internal evaluations to be reflected in their overall grades.

    • Anticipating an increase in user engagement based on whether or not university professors consider team internal evaluations for grading.

    •  Everytime is the most widely used app among college students, especially in relation to their academic activities.

    • Expecting to capitalize on the overlap in target audience, providing an opportunity for effective advertising.
